Get your Halloween 2016 campaign ready!

It's never too early when it comes to marketing, and even though summer may well just have ended, it's already the time to start thinking about your fall campaigns.

Halloween is a huge event in the calendar, with businesses in every sector  getting on board. To make the most of it, it's important to think outside the box, be creative, and most importantly, start preparing sooner rather than later.

Here are some ideas to get your started:

User generated content is the way to go

We've been harping on about this for a while, but it really is the best way to sell your products, especially during a holiday like Halloween. In fact, IdeaLaunch reported that Halloween related UGC posted on social media, leads to a 300% increases in website traffic, so you can't afford to miss out.

Halloween is all about fun and silliness, costumes and parties. People get so involved and they love to share what they're doing with others. Make the most of this by encouraging your customers to send in pictures, tweets or other posts of them using your products in a Halloween related way.

If you sell clothing, see who can make the best costume out of your pieces.

If you sell groceries, run a competition for the best Halloween themed meal or food.

If you're a tool shop, consider a contest for the best DIY decorated yard.

There really is no end to the possibilities, a little bit of creativity will go a long way.

Which brings us to our next point: Hashtags

People love a good hashtag, there's nothing that makes something more shareable than a witty soundbite. Consider spooky plays on the name of your business, or anything a bit scary that's related to the campaign or competition you're running - just ensure it's memorable. Once you've come up with an idea, promote it as much as possible, you want to make it easy to find.

Word of warning, don't pick something like #Halloween, anything too generic will be used by countless numbers of businesses, drowning you out.

Competitions are the key

We already mentioned competitions briefly, but this really is one of the best seasons for them. A lot of the time running a competition which requires a lot of work is risky, people aren't necessarily willing to put in the effort. Halloween is a different story, your customers will already be planning out their party foods, costumes and decorations, so asking them to create or craft certain things for a competition won't be too much extra effort. It's the best time of year too, with the weather turning grimmer people are more inclined to make things indoors than they were in the height of summer.

Scariness is always a great theme for this, run a "scare us for a chance to win" contest to make the most of the day.

People are mad for pumpkin lattes, every year the queues in Starbucks for the famous drinks are huge, and there's good reason. Fall is about moving from the summer fun into the snuggled winter nights, it's a new set of flavors, smells and unfortunately, weather. Make the most of it by theming your products with traditional fall flavors.

Halloween is the only opportunity brands get to throw caution to the wind and embrace their inner child.
